GO Transit will shut down 100km of track across two entire lines this weekend

GO Transit closures this weekend will make for challenging commutes across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).Metrolinx has announced that it will shutter service on two entire GO Transit lines — the Lakeshore East and Stouffville lines — for the entire weekend of April 11-12, 2026.The closure will cover approximately 100 kilometres of track, spanning 21 stations, and here's everything you need to know to prepare for the bumpy weekend commute ahead.Lakeshore East LineThe entire Lakeshore East Line will be out of service this weekend to accommodate planned construction, with GO buses replacing trains between Durham College Oshawa and Pickering GO, before travelling directly to Union Station Bus Terminal.MetrolinxTrains will resume on Monday, April 13, though Metrolinx warns that "some trains will need to run at slower speeds due to construction completed over the weekend."Metrolinx explained in a news release that the closure is required for the ongoing GO Expansio...
