Kenya Power Meter Reader Arrested Over Ksh 300,000 Runda Extortion Plot

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) apprehended a Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) staffer following an audacious extortion attempt in Nairobi’s upscale Runda estate. The suspect, identified as Bernard Githinji Maina, reportedly demanded a significant bribe from a resident to restore electricity services. According to investigators, Maina, who serves as a meter reader in the Runda area, targeted a homeowner in the Runda Mumwe Estate. The EACC revealed that the ordeal for the complainant began late last year.
